A microwave pulls 900 W to 1,800 W from the socket while cooking, so you need a station with real continuous output, not just capacity. The saving grace is time: cooking happens in minutes. The advertised wattage is the wrong number
A microwave badged at 1,000 W is telling you how much cooking power it delivers into the food. What it takes from the socket to do that is considerably more, because the magnetron and its transformer are not perfectly efficient. The gap is large enough to break a sizing calculation: a station chosen against the badge can be undersized against the appliance.
This site works from 1,200 W of draw as a standing figure, in a range of 900 W to 1,800 W. The plate on the back of your own oven gives its input rating, and that is the figure to size against. Where a plate quotes amps, multiply by the mains voltage.
There is no duty cycle here in the sense used elsewhere on this site. A microwave at full power draws continuously for the length of the programme. Lower power settings do cycle the magnetron on and off, which lowers the average, but the station still has to supply the full draw during the on periods.
Continuous output first, capacity second
The first test is whether the station will run the oven at all. Its continuous AC rating has to exceed the oven's input draw with headroom to spare, and the transformer in an older microwave asks for a short spike above that at start. Read like that, a two kilowatt hour unit is a week of reheating for one person, or a few days of cooking for a family, and the large unit stops being a constraint on the microwave and starts being a constraint on everything else you asked it to run at the same time.
